Today on the program: Man-Thing #7 – “The Old Die Young”

This is the first of a two-part story dealing with the Fountain of Youth and a mysterious fortress hidden in the swamp full of conquistadors and garishly clothed adventurer types.  we also learn the real reason FA Schist is building in the swamp (spoiler: it has to do with the Fountain of Youth). There is also a short subplot where Richard Rory gets to be a big selfish baby.

My topic today will be – coincidentally enough –  the Fountain of Youth. Go figure. I give a brief – very brief – history of “restorative water” myths and legends and give an outline of Juan Ponce de Leon and how he discovered a place that already had people living there.  I also talk a bit about the Fountain of Youth being used as a literary device – like how it is used in today’s story.

So join me as I dive in and overgeneralize the weird, the wacky, and the often wonderful of a 70s swamp-based monster comic.
